Hello Healers! 🌿
Autumn is creeping in, and with it comes crisp air, cozy sweaters, and the whisper of seasonal sniffles. It’s the perfect time to fortify your body and spirit with a classic herbal remedy: Fire Cider. Known for centuries as a powerful tonic, Fire Cider combines pungent, warming ingredients to support your immunity and keep your energy flowing through the cooler months.
And today, we’re giving this traditional elixir a twist: orange peel. Not only does it add a bright, zesty flavor, but it also brings extra vitamin C and a cheerful aroma to your seasonal wellness routine.
Here’s how to make your own Fire Cider:
Ingredients
1/2 cup fresh grated horseradish
1/2 cup minced garlic
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger
2–3 fresh hot peppers, chopped
Peel of 1–2 oranges (avoid the bitter white pith)
2 teaspoons turmeric root or 1 teaspoon dried
Raw apple cider vinegar (enough to cover the ingredients)
Honey to taste (optional, added after straining)
Materials
Quart-sized glass jar with lid (or lid plus parchment/cutting board layer to protect if metal)
Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
Clean mixing spoon
Instructions
Combine ingredients: Place all chopped and grated ingredients in the jar. Layer the orange peels evenly.
Cover with vinegar: Pour apple cider vinegar over the herbs and peels until everything is submerged. Leave about 1 inch of headspace.
Seal and shake: Cap your jar securely (use a barrier if metal) and shake gently.
Infuse: Store in a cool, dark place for 4–6 weeks, shaking daily to mix the ingredients. The aroma will deepen and intensify over time.
Strain: After infusion, strain the solids out with a fine mesh or cheesecloth. Add honey to taste if desired.
Bottle: Store in a clean jar or bottle. Fire Cider keeps for several months in the fridge or a cool cupboard.
Dosing
Take 1–2 tablespoons daily during the cold season.
Add to warm water or tea for a gentle tonic, or take straight if you’re feeling bold!
Quick Tip: This tonic is bold and bracing. Keep a small bottle handy on your desk or in your kitchen for easy daily use, or share with friends to spread the warmth.
Until next time, Healers! 🌿
